Honey Brook "Howard Patent" Infill Bevel Gauge --Limited Edition, Series One
Honey Brook "Howard Patent" Infill Bevel Gauge --Limited Edition, Series One
I'm excited to be offering the first series of ten limited edition Honey Brook "Howard Patent" Sliding Bevel Gauges. This is my reproduction of the bevel gauge design patented by Leonard Howard of St. Johnsbury, Vermont on 5th November 1867. Howard's design recesses the screw to be flush with the bevel surface. In doing so the thumbscrew is less apt to be knocked loose and is generally out of the way when the bevel is in use.
The Honey Brook "Howard Patent" Sliding Bevel Gauge features:
- A manually-machined brass handle true to the Howard Patent, allowing the thumbscrew to be flush with the bevel surface.
- A beautiful infill made with curly Yarran, an Australian wood in the acacia family. Yarran with curly figure is uncommon and complements the brass beautifully.
- Custom brass thumbscrews made in the style of that found on the Howard Patent bevels manufactured by the Star Tool Co.
Like all the other tools in my inventory, I make each of these bevel gauges myself. After inspection, I stamp each bevel gauge with my maker's mark and a number denoting each gauge's place in the series of ten. Additionally, each gauge comes with a signed certificate of authenticity with a description of the tool and documenting its number in the series. The wood on each Honey Brook Bevel Gauge is finished with Glancy's No. 1 Penetrating Oil followed by hand-rubbed shellac. Once the shellac is cured, each bevel gauge receives several coats of my shop made beeswax polish.
This is a tool that you'll enjoy using and be proud to pass down to future generations of makers in your family!
