When dimensioning stock, the try square is one of the most fundamental tools in the woodworker's tool kit. The Honey Brook Try Square is precision made by hand using premium domestic and exotic hardwoods.

The Honey Brook Try Square features:

  1. A 5/8" thick stock (or handle) in your choice of walnut, cherry, or East Indian rosewood.*
  2. A 1/8" thick, 6" long blade** made with quartersawn maple that is mortised and glued into the stock and then mechanically secured with three 1/8" brass pins. The quartersawn maple ensures the stability of the blade and will not mar the surface of your workpiece when in use.
  3. As with all of my Honey Brook Tools, each try square is finished with hand-rubbed shellac and wax.

Some may ask, "Why not use a metal blade?" I have nothing against them, I just prefer the traditional look and feel of an all-wooden try square, a tool that has been used for centuries!

After inspection, I hand-stamp each try square with my maker's mark prior to delivery. I stand behind every tool that leaves my shop, and each comes with a simple unconditional guarantee. If you're not completely satisfied, I will offer you a replacement or a full refund.

The Honey Brook Try Square is a tool that will last a lifetime. You'll be proud to pass them on to your family's next generation of artisans!

Please note that due to CITES restrictions, East Indian rosewood tools can not be shipped outside the United States.

** 8" and 10" try squares will be available soon!

Craftsmanship

I recently purchased a Honey Brook Try Square with a Gabon Ebony handle. It is a beautifully crafted tool. The craftsmanship not only comes out in the look of the tool, but perhaps, more importantly, the feel of the tool when using it. The square is light and accurate, mating well with the wood stock being marked. Kudos to Will for successfully and respectfully carrying on the tradition of handmade toolmaking.

Thank you Don! I’m inspired by classic designs and this is, in fact, patterned after the dimensions of vintage Stanley try squares. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Amazing Try Squares

I recieved a pair of try squares as a gift, and I couldn't be more pleased. Excellent craftsmanship, and I love that the handles are stamped just like the 19th century makers did. These have a place of honor in my toolchest now.

Thanks Eric! Knowing your love of vintage and collectible try squares I’m really pleased that you e added these to your tool chest for use!
